Real Valladolid has announced that Brazilian football legend Ronaldo is selling his majority stake in the Spanish club to a North American investment firm.

“The chairman of the board and majority owner of Real Valladolid, Ronaldo Luis Nazario de Lima, has confirmed that an agreement has been reached to transfer a controlling interest in the club to a North American investment group, supported financially by a European fund,” Valladolid stated.

The club, which suffered relegation from La Liga following a poor season, said further details would be revealed soon, with the transaction still awaiting approval from the Spanish sports council.

Ronaldo had faced intense protests from supporters recently, who urged him to “go home” after Valladolid lost 29 of their 37 league games this season.

Ronaldo originally acquired a 51 per cent share in Valladolid in September 2018. During his tenure, he attempted to update the club’s badge in 2022 but reversed the change the following year due to strong opposition.

Valladolid were relegated to the second division in 2021 but returned immediately to the top flight, only to be relegated again in 2023, leading to a challenging 2024-25 campaign in La Liga.
