Brazillian Legend, Romario Announces Shock Return at 58

Brazilian icon Romario is set to come out of retirement aged 58 to fulfill his dream of playing football alongside his son, Romarinho.

Romario won the World Cup with Brazil in 1994, earning the Golden Ball award, following his five goals at the tournament. He also played for the likes of Barcelona, PSV Eindhoven, Flamengo and Vasco de Gama in a long and illustrious career.

Romario, who is currently the president of America Football Club, has registered himself as a player for the coming season in order to fulfill his dream of playing alongside his son.

Rio’s football federation has approved his registration.

“I’m not going to compete in the championship, but rather play a few games for the team of my heart and make another dream come true-playing alongside my son,” he wrote in a post on Instagram.

He will receive a minumun wage which he plans to donate back to the club.

Romario, who was elected as a Senator representing Rio De Janeiro in 2014, has been club President since he retired 15 years ago.

He is one of a handful of players who have scored over a thousand career goals.
