Gun-wielding bandits have invaded barracks of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Afaka Kaduna, killing a naval officer and also kidnapping two Majors.
A reliable source within the barracks said the attackers arrived at the barracks around 1 am on Tuesday.
“At the moment, we are all on high alert…the whole barracks is under lock and key and security has been beefed up so that the bandits cannot leave,” the source said.
The bandits arrived in a vehicle and passed through the security checkpoint into the Academy, disguised in military uniforms, after which they proceeded to the officers’ quarters.
On arrival, they began shooting sporadically and in the process, killed two officers (a Major and a Squadron Leader). They intercepted another Major and took through the nearby bush inside the academy.
The troops of the NDA Quick Response Team arrived at the scene but were unable to rescue the kidnapped officer.
A manhunt for the bandits has commenced including air surveillance in order to arrest the assailants and rescue the kidnapped officer. One of the wounded officers is currently receiving treatment at the hospital in the barracks.
The Academy Public Relations Officer, Major Bashir Jajira is yet to respond to calls. The Nigerian Defence Academy is yet to issue.
The NDA is located in Afaka where 39 college students were abducted from their hostels.
