Alabi Quadri, the teenager who went viral in 2023 for standing in front of Peter Obi’s convoy, has been discharged and acquitted by a Lagos court on Thursday, April 17, 2025. Quadri had been in custody since January over allegations of armed robbery brought against him by the police.

The decision was handed down at the Apapa Magistrate Court located at Orege, Ajegunle — Sikiru Adagun Courthouse (Court No. 9) — presided over by Magistrate A. O. Olorunfemi (Mrs.).

Quadri’s lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, maintained throughout the case that the teenager, who is under 18, was a victim of a broken justice system. Human rights lawyer Dele Farotimi was also present in court to show solidarity.

New Central reports that the court found no substantial evidence linking Quadri to the alleged crime. His acquittal marks the end of a months-long legal ordeal that began when he was reportedly abducted by hoodlums angry over not receiving a share of the gifts he received after his viral fame.
