BREAKING: Fire Accident at Lagos International Airport

A fire accident has occured at the Lagos International airport on Wednesday morning.

The accident took place at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

The fire has been reported to have come from a malfunctioning cable on the Tarmac of the primary gateway airport.

According to news reports, the inferno originated from a malfunctioning cable on the Tarmac.

All passengers and staff were asked to evacuate the building while the Lagos State Fire service was on hand to complement that of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace, Festus Keyamo

The FAAN Director of Public Affairs & Consumer Protection, Abdullahi Yakubu-Funtua, has given issued a statement concerning the incident.

He said, “At approximately 0750 hours this morning, a smoke incident was reported at Terminal 1 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, located in Ikeja, Lagos. The source of the smoke was identified as originating from the basement of the Terminal building.

“Promptly responding to the situation, the dedicated firefighters from the Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting Services (ARFFS) of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport initiated immediate action. Their swift response and professional efforts have successfully brought the situation under control.”

He said the terminal building was promptly evacuated due to the smoke that had permeated some areas of the facility.

Abdullahi said the situation is presently under control.

The International airport was recently evacuated for repairs

A portion of the FAAN administrative office had reportedly been damaged the previous night due to the fire.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has ordered all international airlines to vacate the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) from October 1.

The directive was issued by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace, Festus Keyamo, during a tour of the airports in Lagos on Thursday, August 31.
