The first batch of Nigerian students stranded in Sudan have arrived in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria.

They landed at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport aboard a Naval airplane and an Air Peace aircraft at approximately 11:35 pm on Wednesday.

Mrs. Catherine Udida, the Director of Migration for the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons, welcomed the evacuees at the airport and stated that 94 individuals were flown in by the C130 naval plane, with Air Peace evacuating 282 people.

Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Mrs. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, expressed her relief at receiving the Nigerian students, given their ordeal in Sudan.

Nigeria’s Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq, along with the permanent secretary in the ministry, Dr. Nasir Sani-Gwarzo, the Director-General of NEMA, Mustapha Habib, security officials, and some family members, were present at the airport’s General Aviation Terminal to welcome the returnees.
