Iran has launched dozens of drones toward Israel, according to an Israeli official.
Earlier, the US said it anticipates that Iran would carry out strikes against multiple targets inside Israel in retaliation for a suspected Israeli strike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus.
President Joe Biden returned to Washington to meet with his national security team.
Iran seized a container ship Saturday near the Strait of Hormuz with 25 crew members on board. According to Iranian state media, the vessel is managed by an Israeli businessman.
“Whoever harms us, we will harm them,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in response to Iran.
Netanyahu said in a statement on Saturday that Israel had been preparing for an attack from Iran.
“In recent years, and especially in recent weeks, Israel has been preparing for a direct attack by Iran,” he said.
“Our defensive systems are deployed; we are ready for any scenario, both defensively and offensively. The State of Israel is strong. The IDF is strong. The public is strong,” he said.
Netanyahu thanked the US, Britain, France and its other allies for “standing alongside Israel.”
