BREAKING: Lesotho Prime Minister Moeketsi Majoro Resigns

Following the loss of the ABC political party, in the just concluded, heavily contested polls, Lesotho Prime Minister Moeketsi Majoro has resigned.

Majoro handed over his resignation letter to King Letsie III. The King has accepted the letter and has requested Majoro to remain in charge until the swearing-in of the new Prime Minister.

The new political party Revolution for Prosperity (RFP) led the polls. The Revolution for Prosperity has formed a coalition government with the Alliance of Democrats and the Movement for Economic Change after it didn’t secure an outright majority in the recent election.

Meanwhile, the leader of Lesotho’s newly established Revolution For Prosperity party (RFP), Sam Matekane, has successfully negotiated with two coalition partners to form a government.

The eight-month-old RFP won 56 out of the 120 seats in parliament but needed the support of other parties to reach the 60 plus-one seats required to form a government.

The national assembly is expected to reconvene for the swearing-in of the new parliamentarians who will then appoint the Prime Minister. The Premier will be inaugurated after being presented to the King. Lesotho is a constitutional monarchy and the king has no formal power.
