An early morning building collapse in Birniwa local government area of Jigawa state, North West Nigeria has claimed one life, leaving several others wounded.
The Jigawa state Police command confirmed the unfortunate incident, stating that it happened around 5:47am on Saturday.
Police public relations officer, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam said the victim died on the spot while others sustained injuries.
The PPRO said a police detective rushed to the scene and conveyed the victims to Birniwa General Hospital for examination and treatment and it was there that the seven persons were confirmed dead.
Adam said that the police did not suspect any foul play as the building that collapsed was built with mud. The PPRO, who earlier said seven people died on the spot while one person was injured, later explained that only one person was confirmed dead, adding that the six other persons who were thought to have died were only unconscious and have now been revived.
