Leading member of Nigeria’s Opposition party and presidential aspirant in the forthcoming 2023 general polls, Peter Obi has resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Former Governor of Anambra State, Obi, who had toured the country seeking votes and support of delegates ahead of the presidential primaries, pulled out 72 hours to the contest.
Until his resignation, he was one of 15 aspirants vying for the presidential ticket of the PDP.
The letter conveying his resignation from the party was submitted to the National Chairman of the PDP, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu. He also submitted a letter to the chairman of his ward in Anambra State, notifying him of his resignation.
Reacting to the incident, Director General of the Peter Obi Campaign Organisation, Doyin Okupe implored Nigerians to not abandon him, as ‘Peter Obi would be on the ballot for the 2023 Presidential Elections’.
