BREAKING: President of Ethiopia Crisis-Hit Amhara Region Submits Resignation

The President of crisis-hit Ethiopia Amhara region, Dr Yilikal Kefale, has submitted his resignation.

Kefele resigned at the regional council emergency meeting held concerning the deadly clashes, which recently broke out at the Amhara region.

According to state-run media reports, deadly clashes began last month between the Ethiopian army and local militiamen.

The President of the Amhara region has immediately been replaced.

Earlier this month, days of fighting that prompted the government to proclaim a state of emergency.

A senior Ethiopian official said that militants in the region were attempting to topple both the regional and federal governments.

Clasjes continue at Ethiopia Amhara region

Fighting between Fano militiamen and the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) persisted over the weekend as residents of Gondar, the second-largest city in Amhara, reported hearing heavy weapon fire that started on Sunday and continued into Monday morning.

Since a two-year civil war in the Tigray area, which borders Amhara, concluded in November, the situation has quickly grown into Ethiopia’s most critical security dilemma.
