The Supreme Court building in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja is currently on fire. An early morning fire razed down three justice offices at the apex court building at the Three Arms Zone area in Abuja.

The fire incident is coming as the Supreme Court prepares to resume sitting for the hearing of the appeals filed by opposition parties People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP) over this year’s Presidential elections and the victory of inaugurated President Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Appeal Court had affirmed President Tinubu’s victory at the polls and dismissed the petitioners earlier in September for lack of merit.

The election was the most fiercely contested since the end of military rule in 1999, with three strong candidates for the first time. It is unclear if there are casualties

Tinubu polled 37% of the votes cast, Atiku secured 29% and Obi got 25%. Presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale said President Tinubu welcomed the judgement “with an intense sense of solemn responsibility and preparedness to serve all Nigerians.”
