Pandemonium broke out in Ladipo Market, Mushin LGA of Lagos State as stick wielding Soldiers drove recklessly in Operation (OPs) MESA van causing stampede and chaos. Security operatives allegedly killed two persons. The incident has prompted the deployment of the Nigerian Army to the area. One Toyota Hilux belonging to the Nigerian Army has been set ablaze.
Eyewitnesses said gunshots were heard at the Aguiyi Ironsi market gate (popularly known as Palamo)
An unspecified number of people were said to have been wounded while other auto parts dealers took to their heels in different directions. The cause of the shooting is yet to be confirmed.
Most shops have closed while shopowners stood around in clusters discussing the security situation.
The Air Force denied that its operatives killed anyone at the scene, insisting they acted professionally and in response to a distress call.
NAF spokesman Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet explained that the service’s personnel attached to the Operation (OPs) MESA were in the market in response to a distress call.
The spokesman for Nigerian Army’s 81 Division, Major Olaniyi Osoba also said the matter will be investigated.
