Nigeria’s senior men’s football team, the Super Eagles, are currently stranded in Libya as they prepare for the second leg of their AFCON 2025 qualifier.
After defeating Libya 1-0 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State on Friday, the two teams were set to meet again in Benina for their fourth Group D match.
The Super Eagles departed for Libya on Sunday afternoon. However, according to reports from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), their aircraft was diverted to a city over two hours away from Benghazi, just an hour before they were set to land.
Videos shared by the NFF late Sunday night show players and officials trying to address the situation at a Libyan airport.
