A large number of civilian members of the Sudan Sovereign Council and members of the government have been arrested by unidentified Sudanese military forces, according to local reports on Monday.
According to local media, unidentified military forces have surrounded the home of Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok.
The prime minister’s media adviser was reportedly arrested by soldiers after they stormed his home on Monday.
The Sudanese Professionals Association (SPA), a main activist coalition in the uprising against Bashir, called on supporters to mobilise after what it called the arrest of cabinet members.
“We urge the masses to go out on the streets and occupy them, close all roads with barricades, stage a general labour strike, and not to cooperate with the putschists and use civil disobedience to confront them,” the group said in a statement on Facebook.
The news comes amid reports of internet service interruptions.
Thousands of people demonstrated in Khartoum on Thursday to show solidarity with the transitional government.
Some sections of the military and their supporters have been seeking to disband it.
Sudan has had 15 coups, five of which were successful. The most recent was the removal of Omar al-Bashir as president in 2019 after months of popular protest.
