Three members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Katsina State have officially defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The defectors are Hon. Balarabe Dabai, representing Bakori/Danja federal constituency; Hon. Iliyasu Abubakar, representing Batsari, Safana, and Dan-Musa federal constituency; and Hon. Salisu Yusuf, representing Mashi/Dutsi federal constituency.

Their defection was confirmed on Thursday during a plenary session of the House of Representatives, where Speaker Abbas Tajudeen read out their letters of defection.

Moments before the announcement, Governor Dikko Umar Radda of Katsina State arrived at the chamber at 11:10 a.m. to witness the development. After the lawmakers’ letters were read, the governor led them to exchange handshakes with the Speaker before taking his leave.

This move follows recent similar political shifts, including the defection of six lawmakers from Delta State from the PDP to the APC on Tuesday, and the switch of two Labour Party (LP) lawmakers from Enugu State to the PDP.

The gale of defections underscores the increasing political realignments ahead of upcoming elections.
