Three serving senators from Kebbi State, originally elected under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have officially declared their intention to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) after a closed-door meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The senators Adamu Aliero (Kebbi Central), Yahaya Abubakar Abdullahi (Kebbi North), and Garba Maidoki (Kebbi South), announced their defection during a meeting held on Friday at the State House in Abuja. The lawmakers were accompanied by the APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who led them to the meeting with the President.
The development marks a significant political realignment in Kebbi State and strengthens the ruling party’s hold in the region, particularly ahead of legislative and executive undertakings in the National Assembly.

Present at the meeting were Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State, Governor Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto State, and Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu, who is also a former governor of Kebbi State.
While no formal statements were issued by the defecting senators immediately after the meeting, insiders describe the move as a strategic consolidation of political support for the Tinubu administration and a response to ongoing internal issues within the PDP.
The defection is expected to boost APC’s numerical strength in the Senate and further shift the balance of political influence in Kebbi State toward the ruling party.
