Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has thrown his full weight behind Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu ahead of his gubernatorial bid in 2023.
Governor Wike who has been the main dissenting voice in Nigeria’s Opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has disagreed over the presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and the party chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu.
He said Sanwo-Olu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is the best man for Lagos, considering his performance.
Wike spoke during the ongoing 22nd National Women’s Conference in Victoria Island. The annual conference, with the theme ‘Spring Forth, Stand Out,’ is organised by the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO), and will end on Thursday.
Governor Wike said women’s participation in politics and decision-making in Lagos State is pacing the state at an enviable rate. He also expressed his amazement at all COWLSO was, and promised to replicate all he has learnt from the conference.
As part of support for COWLSO, Wike donated N300 millions to the association. The endorsement comes despite Wike’s party, the PDP, having a governorship flagbearer in Lagos, in the person of Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor.
