BREAKING: Yoruba Nation Agitator Sunday Igboho Arrested in Benin Republic

BREAKING: Beninoise Court Frees Yoruba Separatist Leader Sunday Igboho  (News Central TV)

Yoruba Nation secessionist leader, Sunday Adeyemo, better known as Sunday Igboho, has been arrested in Cotonou, Benin Republic.

Igboho, who fled Nigeria to evade arrest by the Department of State Services, was reportedly arrested at an airport in Cotonou on Monday night.

It was gathered that Igboho was fleeing to Germany when he was arrested.

Sources suspect Igboho will be repatriated to Nigeria today.

DSS operatives raided Igboho’s residence in the Soka area of Ibadan, Oyo State, South-West Nigeria on July 1, 2021 and arrested 12 of his aides, killing two in a gun duel.

Igboho had, at the time, escaped arrest and fled underground, prompting the DSS to declare him wanted for allegedly stockpiling arms, an allegation he denied.

The Nigerian government had placed the Immigration and Customs services on alert to stop Igboho from leaving the country.

After failing to arrest Igboho on July 1, DSS Public Relations Officer, Peter Afunnaya, had vowed that there would be no hiding place for him, saying he “may run as far as he can. He may hide as long as he wants…But this will be the end of his shenanigans.”

He added those cheering and eulogizing him may appeal to or advise him to do the needful.

“He should surrender himself to the appropriate authorities. He or anyone can never be above the law.”

Meanwhile, one of the lawyers representing Igboho and others arrested in his house, Pelumi Olajengbesi, said he cannot confirm the news of Igboho’s arrest as of press time.
