The Nigerian Police have declared Andrew Wynne, a British national, wanted for allegedly plotting to overthrow President Bola Tinubu‘s government.

The police are investigating how foreign mercenaries and other subversive elements planned to undermine Nigeria’s democratically-elected government.

Wynne, also known as Andrew Povich or Drew Povey, reportedly used a rented space at Labour House in Abuja for a bookshop and a school as a cover for his activities.

Evidence suggests the British national directed and financed protests aimed at regime change. The investigation has led to the arrest of nine suspects linked to the plot.

Police spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed this to Journalists at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Monday.

“The Nigeria Police Force has launched a comprehensive investigation into the activities of a foreign national and subversive elements plotting to undermine the democratically elected government in Nigeria through unconstitutional regime change and orchestrating violence across the country.

“Following extensive intelligence gathering and collaboration with other security agencies, nine suspects have been apprehended, who received substantial financial backing from foreign sources to destabilise the country.

“Preliminary findings suggest they orchestrated and funded violent protests, disseminated false information, and engaged in other unlawful activities to create anarchy and justify their illegal plot to overthrow the democratically elected government,” he said.
