A British-Nigerian minister and MP for Edmonton, Kate Osamor has been suspended from office over her disapproval of Israel’s continuous bombardment of Gaza.

Osamor who is the MP for Edmonton had shared a photograph of herself at a Holocaust Educational Trust event.

Osamor sparked outrage after claiming in her weekly newsletter that Gaza should be added to the list of ‘recent genocides.’

In her words: “Tomorrow is Holocaust Memorial Day, an international day to remember the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, the millions of other people murdered under Nazi persecution of other groups and more recent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and now Gaza.”

She later apologised “for any offence caused by my reference to the ongoing humanitarian disaster in Gaza as part of that period of remembrance”.

However, the Holocaust Educational Trust described her remarks as a “painful insult to survivors of the Holocaust.”

The Board of Deputies of British Jews called her comment “disgraceful”, while the Jewish Leadership Council accused her of abusing HMD to attack the Jewish state.

Shadow business secretary Jonathan Reynolds said it was unacceptable to compare the Holocaust to the military ‘operation’ in Gaza.

Israeli bombardment killed 215 Palestinians on Sunday, January 25, 2024. Thus far, more than 26,400 people have been killed in Gaza since the war began, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry. More than 64,400 have been injured, most of them rendered homeless while thousands more are missing.
