Misan Harriman, a British-Nigerian producer and the first black man to shoot a magazine cover for British Vogue, has achieved another milestone as his latest film, ‘The After,’ makes the shortlist for the 96th Academy Awards in the Live Action Short Film category.
Out of over 187 films that qualified for consideration, ‘The After’ is one of the 15 titles selected from around the world. The final nominations, consisting of five films, will be announced on Tuesday, January 23, 2024.
‘The After’ delves into themes of resilience, courage, and the indomitable spirit of hope. The film, which made its debut on Netflix on October 25, 2023, is written by Misan Harriman and John Julius Schwabach. It follows the story of a ride-share driver, portrayed by David Oyelowo, who finds solace through an unexpected encounter with a passenger. The cast also includes Jessica Plummer and Amelie Dokubo.
Misan Harriman, born in 1977, is not only a photographer but also an entrepreneur and social activist. Widely recognised for his impactful photography during the Black Lives Matter movement, Harriman assumed the role of Chair of the Southbank Centre, London, in July 2021.
