British music legend Sir Elton John has opened up about his struggle with a serious eye infection.

In a personally signed statement, the 77-year-old revealed that the infection has left him with “limited vision” in one eye, and his recovery has been painstakingly slow.

“I’ve been dealing with a severe eye infection that has unfortunately reduced the vision in one of my eyes. While I am healing, the process is very slow, and it will take time before my sight is fully restored,” part of his statement read.

Despite the challenges, the “I’m Still Standing” singer remains optimistic. He added, “I’m feeling positive about the progress I’ve made in my healing and recovery so far.”

John, who announced his retirement from touring a few months ago, wrapped up his farewell tour last year. The tour, which grossed $939 million (£749 million) across 328 shows, was the highest-earning music tour in history until it was recently surpassed by Taylor Swift’s ‘Eras’ tour, which brought in $1 billion.

In August of last year, John was briefly hospitalised after slipping at his villa in Nice, France. He was taken to the Princess Grace Hospital’s orthopedic centre in Monaco as a precaution.

“Following a slip at his home in the South of France, Elton visited a local hospital as a precaution,” his representative told the Daily Mail. “After routine checks, he was discharged the following morning and is now back home in good health.”
