Hong Kong/American martial artist and actor, Bruce Lee would have been 82 yesterday November 27. Lee was one of the world’s most famous and influential martial artists, an actor, producer, martial arts instructor, and creator of Jeet Kune Do – a martial arts technique.

On July 20 1973, the actor had a minor headache and was offered a prescription painkiller called Equagesic. After taking the pill, he went to lie down and slipped into a coma that he was unable to be revived from.

In honour of his birthday, a celebratory program was held by the Chinese Historical Society of America in San Francisco. The presentation featured a screening of “The Way of the Dragon” from 1972, which is the only complete film written, produced, and directed by Bruce Lee, who also starred in the lead role.

A panel discussion was also held on multi-racial influence of Bruce Lee, with experts providing in-depth look at his legacy of civil rights, equality and social justice.

Lee was best known for movies such as Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, Enter the Dragon, Fist of Fury, Game of Death, The Orphan, The Big Boss, among others.
