Nigeria’s president Muhammadu Buhari on Friday, condoled with Japan over the sudden passing of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who died from severe bullet wounds during a campaign outing in the country.
The president on behalf of the Nigerian government, extended condolenses to the family of late Abe, as well as the Government and people of Japan.
The late Abe, 67, was gruesomely murdered during a campaign speech in Nara, Japan, on Friday. He did not survive the severe bullet wounds sustained from the attacks.
Special Adviser to the president on, Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina in a statement for the president, noted that Abe’s significant contributions to strengthening trade and investment between Africa and Japan through various initiatives and partnerships, will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.
The statement added that president Buhari was with the people of Japan in the mourning of such a great loss; the country’s “longest-serving Prime Minister and outstanding leader.”
Buhari further extolled all the great qualities of the late former Japanese PM, and his unshaken commitment to ensuring that Nigeria enjoyed strategic partnerships, as well as support in relevant areas like healthcare, disaster risk reduction, economic cooperation, amongst others.
The President also affirms that under Abe, Nigeria and Japan enjoyed a strategic partnership, supporting each other’s shared aspirations on economic cooperation, healthcare, human resource development, disaster risk reduction, peace and security.
Buhari further said the people of Nigeria were with Japan in their prayers, and prayed for the soul of the departed to rest in peace, adding that his great strides while alive will serve as a legacy for his people and all the places he has touched with his benevolence.
