Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari has issued a stern warning to attackers of national infrastructure following a briefing about the level of destruction experienced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu, the INEC Chairman met and briefed the President on Tuesday on the damage its properties have suffered since the last general elections.
The INEC boss reported at least 42 attacks have been recorded by INEC since 2019, with a higher spate of attacks seen in recent weeks.
Buhari said those perpetrating the acts have little understanding of what was faced in the Nigerian Civil War between 1967 and 1970. He threatened to deal with the perpetrators in the language they understand, in a statement that has generated massive reactions.
The Nigerian President said “… many of those misbehaving today were too young to be aware of the destruction and loss of lives that occurred during the Nigerian Civil War. Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand.”
