Ten people lost their lives, and seven others were injured after a building collapsed in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, Nigeria, on Thursday morning.
According to a statement from the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, the incident occurred at 2 a.m. in the Jegeda Oluloyo area of Ibadan, within the Ona Ara Local Government Area.
The statement further noted that ten bodies were recovered from the rubble, while seven individuals were rescued alive. Rescue efforts are reportedly still ongoing as of the time of this report.
The statement stated, “The Oyo State Fire Services Agency received a panicked call at around 2 a.m. this morning in the Jegede Olunloyo area of Ibadan, of which ten people were recovered from the wreckage of the collapsed structure, and seven people were rescued alive.
“The rescue operation is still ongoing.”
When the media called the state Fire Services’ General Manager, Yemi Akinyinka, he stated, “We received a distress call from residents in the neighbourhood around 2 a.m.
“When we arrived, ten people had died outright.” Three people had been recovered before we arrived, and our men had recovered four. They’re still working.”
