The management of Lead British International School, Abuja announced on Tuesday that the institution will be closed down for three days to investigate the recent bullying incident.
According to a source from the school, the decision to shut down the school temporarily was in the interest of all parties involved, as it would enable a proper probe into the incident that went viral on social media.
News Central reported that an X user, @moooyeeeee, shared two videos on Monday night showing a female student being repeatedly slapped by another female classmate at the school.
The user demanded justice for the victim. The video sparked widespread outrage on the microblogging platform.
Many users condemned the incident and urged school authorities to investigate and take action against the culprits.
In response, the school management stated on Tuesday that the incident was being investigated and that the school would halt activities for three days.
Abuja Police Deploys Officers
The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has dispatched its officers to the school premises in response to the viral videos of bullying amid ongoing investigations.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, announced on Tuesday that this action was taken to maintain law and order during the ongoing investigations.
“In a proactive response to alarms raised by some members of the public regarding videos circulating on social media depicting the bullying of students at the above-mentioned school, the FCT Police Command is on top of the situation and has deployed seasoned officers to the school premises for investigations and to forestall any possible breakdown of law and order,” Adeh said.
