Burkina Faso’s military leader, Lieutenant-Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba has dismissed his Minister of Defence Barthélémy Simporé, and replaced him.
According to decrees published Monday, September 12, the junta chief said he was dismissing General Barthélémy Simporé and assuming the role himself.
There were no reasons given for the cabinet reshuffle. Colonel Damiba seized power last January, accusing the previous government of failing to tackle the West African nation’s problems, including a raging insurgency.
Thousands have been murdered in the violence and around two million people have been displaced.
