Top Nigerian singer, songwriter and record producer Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu known by his stage name Burna Boy, has released his 7th studio album in around ten years.
The afro-fusion king took to his X handle to announce his new body of work titled “I Told Them” which was officially released to fans on Friday.
He wrote:
“It’s out, my new Album. #ITOLDTHEM …. Happy listening.”
In another tweet, the singer wrote: “I had to show them what the reason is.”
The album comprises of a total of 15 tracks which include, “Sitting On Top of the World’, “Thanks”, and “I Told Them’, and features prominent stars in the music industry such as J. Cole, RZA, GZA, Dave, 21 Savage, Byron Messia, and Seyi Vibes.
This is Burna Boy’s 7th album following his rise to stardom in 2012 with his hit single, “Like to Party” from his first body of work titled L.I.F.E.
The self-acclaimed African Giant and Grammy winner recently got roasted for his remarks about the Afrobeats genre. In an interview on Youtube with Disk Jockey, Zane Lowe on Monday, he claimed the genre lacked substance.
”… Most of Nigerian music or African music or Afrobeats as you people call it, is mostly about nothing. Literally nothing,” he had stated, much to the anger of lovers of the genre who came at him with guns blazing.
“I feel like music should be the essence of the artiste. The artiste is a person who has good day, bad day, great days and worst days,” he added.
Burna Boy also shared that his album was inspired by the need to address his own people who never believed in his dreams of becoming a successful music star.
“A prophet is not really recognised in his own home… This one is for part of my own home, and people in my own home who didn’t believe or doubted it, or still doubt it,” he said.
Burna’s “I Told Them” is currently trending at number 1 on one of the biggest social media platforms, X, formerly known as Twitter,
