African Giant Burna Boy is set to become the first ever African artist to headline a UK stadium. With a capacity of 60,000, the London Stadium will be Burna Boy’s largest-ever solo audience.
London stadium announced the event on social media. It said “London Stadium is excited to announce global superstar Burna Boy’s Love, Damini Stadium concert which will take place on Saturday 3rd June 2023!”
The CEO of London Stadium, Graham Gilmore, said “It will be a landmark first for him or any solo African artist here in the U.K.” and “it promises to be a special night at the Stadium next June”.
Burna Boy made a comment saying “London Stadium is going to be my fairground” and the gig “is going to be legendary’.
The Grammy winner is no stranger to big capacities having sold out shows in the 20,000-capacity O2 Arena in London and the Madison Square Garden in New York City with an audience of 20,789.
The 31-year-old picked up two nominations for the 65th Grammy Awards scheduled to take place at the Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena on February 5, 2023. His latest album “Love, Damini” is up for ‘Best Global Music Album’, the same category he won at the 63rd GRAMMY Awards, and a single off the album ‘Last Last’ will compete in the ‘Best Global Music Performance’ category.
