Bus Crash in South Africa Claims Five Lives

Five people have died after a South Africa-bound bus travelling from Zimbabwe lost control and overturned on Sunday.
The province’s transport company reports that among the deceased were four men and one woman.

The ministry said in a statement that it was “saddened with a second fatal bus accident that happened in less than five days”, adding that “fatigue could possibly have been a cause” for the crash.
“Scores of passengers have sustained injuries of varying degrees in the process and have been taken to hospitals,” the ministry said, offering condolences to the deceased’s families.

Earlier this week, ten people died and 35 injured after another bus travelling from Zimbabwe to Limpopo overturned.
On Saturday, 11 people died after a head-on collision in the country’s eastern KwaZulu-Natal province. Only one man survived.

In a separate incident on the same day and in the same province, at least six supporters of South Africa’s official opposition uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party died after their bus crashed.

South Africa boasts one of the most developed networks on the continent but has one of the worst road safety records, a situation caused by reckless driving and the use of unroadworthy vehicles.
