After four years and hundreds of witnesses, the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into Allegations of State Capture, Corruption and Fraud in the Public Sector including Organs of State finally submitted its findings to South African president Cyril Ramaphosa. The Zondo Commission as it’s known was set up to investigate allegations of corruption and fraud in the country’s public sector. The third and final tranche of the inquiry marks the conclusion of a widely conducted probe into alleged misappropriation and misdirection of public funds. The completion of the inquiry is just the beginning, as South Africans wait to see if action and sanctions will follow. The second guest on Business Edge is Dr NX Iraki of the University of Nairobi, Kenya and he provides insight on the ongoing debt discussions in that Kenya. Kenya’s debt profile has continued to rise, both in loans taken and in the volume of debt servicing. This year alone, the country will spend 1.39 trillion shillings – around 12.1 billion US dollars – on debt servicing. Its total debt obligation is 72 billion dollars. However, the World Bank has shown that it is interested in Kenya’s economic recovery and future well-being as it has stepped in to shield it from excessive loans by providing intervention funds of its own
