Cameroon, Mali Proceed to CHAN Semifinals

The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon have defeated the Democratic Republic of Congo to advance to the semifinal of the African Nations Championship.

The Congolese had faced threats of a walkover against them after 13 of their players were reported to have tested positive for COVID-19.

A second test proved to be the relief the team needed as ten of the players tested negative.

Cameroon, hosts of the tournament were in high spirits as they played in front of their fans but their buzz was deflated when Makabi Lilepo drew the first blood for the Congolese.

The Cameroonians responded with an equaliser through N’Djeng Yannick as the game went on to an interesting climax.

Felix Oukine scored the second and winner for the Indomitable Lions as they move one step closer to their target of being crowned champions.

Earlier in the day, the Eagles of Mali defeated the other side of Congo 5-4 on penalties.

The game went into the shootouts after both teams played a goalless stalemate after 120 minutes.

The Democratic Republic of Congo and Congo-Brazzaville are now out of the African Nations Championship despite a promising start.
