Cameroonian FA Set to Announce Rigobert Song as Head Coach

The Cameroonian Sports Minister has confirmed that Rigobert Song, a former defender and captain of the “Indomitable Lions,” will take over as coach of the national football team from Portuguese coach António Conceiço.

In early February, the “Indomitable Lions” placed third in the African Cup of Nations after being ousted on penalties in the semi-finals by Egypt.

The Central African FA announced that it is looking to secure a place in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar as the National Team sets to lock horns against Algeria in less than a month’s time in the African Zone play-offs.

Rigobert Song earned a name for himself in Europe, the United Kingdom, and Turkey before retiring in 2010.

The former star has already coached the Cameroonian U-21 squad and served as a technical advisor to the senior team, which he led to the 2018 African Cup of Nations, AFCON.

Internationally, he played at a record eight Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and served as captain of Cameroon in five and holds the record of most consecutive games played in the tournament with 35 first team games. He has won two CAF Africa Cup of Nations titles in 2000 and 2002.
