Cameroon’s Rapid Intervention Battalion, BIR combed Banten, Mborshia, and Yere in the Bui division of the North West region of Cameroon and exterminated five Ambazonia separatist fighters in a gun duel.
The armed separatist fighters were ambushed in a ramshackle building in Yelum forest.
After gun battles, five separatists were shot dead and others escaped, a military source said. Eight people were arrested by BIR elements but their families have not heard from them. Among them are seven men and one woman.
Some 3 assault rifles, 3 rocket launchers, 7 guns, ammunition, and improvised explosives among many other items were impounded by the army.
“The military entered Amba camp at Yelum took those guns, after killing one fighter injured another. They place these guns on these innocent civilians before executing them,” a source said.
Security sources say amulets, Cannabis, T-shirts, and flags emblazoned with Ambazonia Defence Force (ADF) slogans were also taken and immediately destroyed.
They left after burning down the fighters’ temporary home. The Ambazonia Defence Force (ADF) communication department said two state forces were killed but did not confirm casualties on their side, “Unconfirmed reports also state that an ADF soldier may have fallen as well. We are told the leader has been in the War Room with the War Council monitoring events by the minute.” it posted on its Facebook page.
Reports from Bui are uncorroborated but civilians have maintained that they saw four of those arrested entering the forests and being accompanied by state forces.
