Cameroon’s Choupo-Moting joins Bayern Munich from PSG

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting has joined German Champions Bayern Munich on a one-year deal from French club Paris St-German.

The 31-year-old scored six goals in 18 appearances for PSG in all competitions last season, including a late winner against Atlanta in last season’s Champions League quarter-finals. And came on as substitute in the final which Bayern won.

He became free agent after his contract with PSG expired last month, and makes a return to the German Bundsesliga – where he started his career – having played for Hamburg, Nurnberg, Mainz and Schalke 04.

“It’s a great feeling coming back to the Bundesliga – and then to the biggest club in Germany,” Choupo-Moting told Bayern’s club website.

“Who wouldn’t want to play for FC Bayern? It’s an honour to play for this club. It’s always Bayern’s aspiration to win everything, and I’m hugely motivated to help them achieve those goals.”

For Hasan Salihamidzic, Bayern’s sporting director: “He gives our squad a depth on the offensive, especially in the centre. “Eric gained international experience at Paris St-Germain, he knows the Bundesliga and is coming on a free transfer. It all fits together very well.”

The Cameroonian striker also played for English side Stoke City, scoring five goals in the 2017-2018 season where they were relegated before moving to PSG in August 2018.
