Cape Town Announces 72-Hour Water Supply Shutdown

The City of Cape Town has announced a 72-hour water supply shutdown, apologising for the inconvenience it may cause residents, especially those in 22 areas on the Cape Flats.

Mayco member for Water and Sanitation, Zahid Badroodien, stated that the maintenance would begin on Monday, June 24, and end at midnight on Wednesday, June 27.

“This shutdown is necessary to allow for the replacement of five valves in this network. It enables us to conduct crucial maintenance work safely on this vital section of our water supply network,” said Badroodien.

He added that delaying the work would pose a greater risk to the city.

“We’re conducting this work over time to minimise the impact on residents as much as possible.”

Badroodien emphasised that the maintenance would ensure the city’s water pipelines remain in good condition.
