Cape Town Attributes Foul Odour to Cattle Ship

A pungent odour permeating South Africa’s Cape Town is being attributed to a ship transporting livestock that docked at the port on Sunday night.

Residents across the city and its suburbs have been questioning the origin of the unpleasant smell.

The City of Cape Town acknowledged the issue on its official X account, confirming that the odour emanated from the ship.

Zahid Badroodien, the city’s water and sanitation official, stated that the vessel, carrying cattle, was scheduled to depart the port on Monday night.

Earlier, Badroodien dismissed any connection between the sewage smell enveloping parts of the city and the Koeberg sewer pump station.

Some South Africans on social media have voiced concerns about the welfare of the livestock aboard the ship, while others have pondered the well-being of those on board.

The incident coincides with reports indicating that ships transporting livestock bound for Western countries are rerouted through South Africa’s coast due to recent attacks in the Red Sea.
