United States President Joe Biden was in a startling scene on Sunday after his Secret Service motorcade was crashed into by a car in Delaware.
The incident occurred as President Biden left the campaign headquarters in his preparation for the 2024 Presidential Elections.
His security detail rushed him into a waiting vehicle after a sedan slammed into an SUV in an intersection about 139 feet from the US president, causing a loud bang.
President Biden was whisked away from the location to Wilmington after the security scare.
“Both the president and first lady are fine,” a White House official said to an AFP reporter who was at the scene of the incident.
“Today, at approximately 8:09 pm (0109 GMT), a Secret Service vehicle securing the president’s motorcade route was struck by another vehicle in Wilmington,” spokesperson of the Secret Service, Special Agent Steve Kopek, said.
“There was no protective interest associated with this event and the president’s motorcade departed without incident,” he added.
A pool of reporters had congregated on the sidewalk outside the campaign headquarters, after shouting questions at President Biden from a distance, where he and First Lady Jill Biden had dinner with workers.
The Agents had quickly trapped the silver sedan with Delaware license plates and pulled guns on the driver, who raised his hands in surrender.
“They’re evacuating, you guys gotta go,” a staff member informed reporters as security guards guarded the area.
President Biden reportedly arrived at his family’s house safely without further hiccups.
