A Philippine-flagged cargo ship sank off Samar island, leaving one crew member dead and two others missing, the coast guard reported on Tuesday.
The Jerlyn Kathness was overcome by large waves in the San Bernardino Strait on Monday. Passing vessels rescued 11 of the 15 crew members overnight, said coast guard station commander Bryhl Amay.
Another crew member swam ashore to San Juan island after more than 25 hours in the water, while fishermen recovered a body near Biri island.
A search operation is underway for the two remaining crew. The ship, built in 1993, was transporting 24 tonnes of cement from Cebu to Samar.
