The unrests in the last two weeks commenced with a riot in the maximum prison in Freetown, which claimed 12 lives. Then there were riots in at least two other districts, amidst conflicting reports about the number of deaths. President Bio blamed opposition APC for the unrest.
Anselme Amoussou, general secretary of one of the country’s largest labour organisation, said testing remained “insufficient”.
Guinea’s politics have been tense for months, with a dispute over the constitution sometimes flaring up into violent protests in which dozens of people have been killed.
The continuous increase in the number of infections has risen due to the increased capacity for testing across the country, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control said.
However the coastal city of Abidjan, which has a population of five million, will remain isolated from the rest of the country, with measures staying in place there until at least May 15.
The Nigerian government said it was making effort to return stranded citizens abroad as over 2,000 Nigerians are stranded in the UK alone, as it begins the evacuation of nationals willing to return home at their personal expenses. It only provided the aircrafts and sought flight clearance permission from host governments due to the current closure of airports globally.
Gombe state information commissioner Alhassan Ibrahim Kwami insisted that the patients had “misunderstood their status” and did not require any drugs as they were asymptomatic.
“Our projected oil revenue has declined by over 80 percent,” said Ben Akabueze, head of the Budget Office in a video conference in Abuja on Tuesday.
The World Health Organization has said that the herbal tea’s effects had not been tested, and there are no published scientific studies of the potion.
