Mahamat Said Abdul Kain, a Central African Republic war crime suspect has said he will fight allegations against him at the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Said, who led a faction called “Seleka” was accused of war crimes.
He faces accusations of crimes against humanity from a 2013 conflict.
Said has since been transferred to The Hague after being detained.
A battle ensued between largely northern Muslim militia named Seleka and an opposition, Anti-Balaka, which is a Christian militia, in 2013. Leaders of both groups are facing allegations of war crimes at the ICC.
There have been an ongoing restiveness between Central African Republic troops, backed by the U.N, Rwanda and Russia, against local militia who have refused to accept the election of President Faustin Touadera.
Said’s lawyer Jean Pierre Madoukou said on Friday that his client will prove his innocence in court.
“I can say clearly that (the) truth will come out in favour of (mister) Said based on everything we have at our disposal,” Madoukou said.
Said has however refused to say anything about his case as he awaits judgement.
