The transitional President of Chad, General Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno on Monday appointed a former leading opposition leader, Succes Masra who recently returned from exile, as Prime Minister.
Masra, president of The Transformers party, returned to Chad in November after reaching an agreement with Chadian military leaders. He was a longtime adversary of the Deby dynasty.
Masra will contend with several concerns including worsening security, economic distresses, and the pressing need for democratic reforms. The nation is set to organise general elections by November 2024, a promise Interim President Deby has restated over time.
