Chelsea has successfully completed the double signing of Geovany Quenda and Dario Essugo from Sporting Lisbon, with a combined transfer fee of £62.5 million ($81 million).
Portuguese club Sporting confirmed the deals late on Wednesday, revealing that 17-year-old winger Quenda was signed for just under £44 million, while 20-year-old defensive midfielder Essugo joined for £18.5 million.
Quenda, who had attracted interest from Manchester United, will remain at Sporting until the end of next season before switching to Stamford Bridge. Meanwhile, Essugo will finish the current campaign on loan at La Liga side Las Palmas before heading to London.
The signings align with Chelsea’s ongoing strategy of acquiring top young talent, following deals for Estevao Willian and Kendry Paez, both 17, who will also join the club next season.

Quenda, already a first-team player at Sporting, made his Champions League debut in September and netted his first league goal against Famalicao in October.
Essugo, known for his solid performances in a holding midfield role, is expected to provide depth in Chelsea’s squad, possibly serving as a backup to Moises Caicedo.
Under the ownership of Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, Chelsea have continued their aggressive investment in young prospects, with a focus on long-term squad building.
Currently fourth in the Premier League, Chelsea are battling for a Champions League spot, and their latest acquisitions highlight their ambition to secure future success.
