Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher is scheduled to travel to Spain on Monday to finalise a transfer to Atletico Madrid. Last week, Chelsea agreed to a deal worth around £34m with the La Liga club after they couldn’t reach an agreement with the player on new contract terms to keep him at Stamford Bridge.
In the past few days, two other top-six Premier League clubs have inquired about the midfielder, but he has opted to move to Atletico Madrid.
Gallagher made the final decision to join Atletico Madrid just a minute before the weekend deadline.
If discussions go smoothly and a medical examination is successfully completed, he is expected to sign a five-year contract.
Although Aston Villa made a higher bid for Gallagher this summer, he turned down the opportunity to move to Villa Park and chose to stay at Stamford Bridge.
Tottenham is still expressing interest in acquiring the player.
