Chelsea’s Palmer and Maresca Claim Premier League Awards

Chelsea duo, Cole Palmer and Enzo Maresca have been voted as the Premier League’s Player and Manager of the Month of September.

Last month, the Blues secured victories in three out of their four league matches, which propelled them to fourth place, just four points behind leaders Liverpool, whom they will face next Sunday. One of their wins was a 4-2 triumph over Brighton, during which Palmer made history by becoming the first player in Premier League history to score four goals before half-time.

Palmer also became only the second Chelsea player, after Frank Lampard in 2008 and 2010, to score four times in two different games in the top flight. The England international currently leads the division for goal involvements this season, with a total of 11 (six goals and five assists), and has created 23 chances, a figure surpassed only by Bukayo Saka (27).

Having now earned two of the last three Premier League Player of the Month awards, the 22-year-old is second only to Lampard (four) in the number of awards won for the Blues.

Maresca was shortlisted for the award along with Mikel Arteta, Arne Slot, Unai Emery, and Marco Silva, ultimately prevailing after votes from both the public and a panel of experts.

As a result, the Italian has become the first Chelsea head coach since Thomas Tuchel in October 2021 to receive the Manager of the Month award.
