Chidimma Adetshina, who faced controversy during the Miss South Africa competition, has now entered the Miss Universe Nigeria contest as the representative of Taraba State.
Born in 2001 at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto, Chidimma’s father is Igbo, and her mother, reportedly a naturalised South African citizen, is of Mozambican descent.
Questions about her nationality sparked a backlash during her time in the Miss South Africa competition.
After the controversy led to an investigation by the South African Ministry of Home Affairs, Chidimma Adetshina chose to withdraw from the contest and has opted to participate in the 2024 Miss Universe Nigeria pageant.
Organisers of the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant officially introduced Ms Adetshina as contestant number 25 representing Miss Taraba on Friday.
“Introducing CHIDIMMA ADETSHINA (@chichi_vanessa ) as MISS TARABA STATE,” the organisers wrote.
