China has urged all parties involved in the Ukraine war to take part in peace negotiations, following talks between senior US and Russian diplomats in Saudi Arabia.
The discussions, aimed at ending Moscow’s invasion, notably excluded Kyiv and its European allies.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated that China welcomes efforts towards peace, including the consensus reached between the United States and Russia. He emphasised Beijing’s expectation that all stakeholders should participate in negotiations promptly.

“At the same time, China expects all parties involved and stakeholders to participate in the negotiation process in a timely manner,” Jiakun told a regular press briefing.
China has sought to position itself as a mediator in the conflict, advocating for its own peace proposal. However, its role has been met with scepticism in the West due to its increasingly close ties with Moscow.
