China is planning to establish four military bases in Africa, the United States has revealed in a new report.
The US Department of Defense in its report titled, “Military and Security Developments Involving The People’s Republic Of China 2020”, named the countries China is targeting as Kenya, Seychelles, Tanzania and Angola.
The report, which was published last week, further discloses that China “is seeking to establish a more robust overseas logistics and basing infrastructure to allow the PLA to project and sustain military power at greater distances.
The report which was published last week was widely reported over the weekend, with some of the countries where the bases are to be set up refuting allegations of discussions with China.
The US, in that report, noted that a global PLA military logistics network could both interfere with American military operations and support offensive operations against the United States as the PRC’s global military objectives evolve.
“Beyond its current base in Djibouti, the PRC – People’s Republic of China – is very likely already considering and planning for additional overseas military logistics facilities to support naval, air, and ground forces,” the report said in part.
“The PRC has likely considered locations for PLA military logistics facilities in Myanmar, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, United Arab Emirates, Kenya, Seychelles, Tanzania, Angola, and Tajikistan. The PRC and Cambodia have publicly denied having signed an agreement to provide the PLAN with access to Cambodia’s Ream Naval Base.
